I never write reviews, but the crew at the San Mateo and Central Take 5 deserve one. This was my first visit to a Take 5 after years of going to another big name oil change shop. I'll never take my car anywhere but this shop from now on. I went in needing a bunch of stuff, oil change, coolant flush, new air filters, and windshield wipers. They handled everything and more in a speedy, professional manner. They even spotted an oil leak due to a previous oil change shop forgetting the oil pan plug gasket and fixed it. Each employee also made it a point to physically show me every filter to prove whether it needed to be replaced or not. If the filter was still clean, they didn't try to sell me a new one. They even showed me what they drained from my radiator versus the fresh coolant they installed. It's clear throughout the service what you're getting for your money. As a veteran, I immediately noticed some elements that made the entire experience quick and painless: a strong leader, lots of communication, teamwork, and a clear sequential order for performing tasks. The team were servicing three vehicles simultaneously, mine and two others. Instead of one tech doing all the work on one vehicle. The manager deftly routed his techs to specific vehicles and tasks - knowing how long each task would take, if a specific task was quicker with an extra set of hands, and guaging when to shift his techs to new tasks - all while handling the administrative and payment portions of the visit. The techs themselves remained flexible, always ready to pivot. Every employee seemed to know the different processes of the various tasks down cold. As they were assigned to new tasks, they would be told where the vehicle was in the process, allowing the tech to pick up where the last person left off. They all worked together as a cohesive team, communicating, grabbing parts for each other, and helping out when extra hands were needed. Last but not least, they were working in sweltering heat in the high 90s. They greeted me with a smile and a bottle of ice cold water. Despite the heat and the physical demands of their job, everyone was professional, with positive, courteous attitudes. The manager was downright unflappable, cracking jokes and making customers feel at ease. As I left, the same employee who greeted me had another big smile on his face as he waved goodbye. As for the price, I was able to use their Veteran Discount on the oil change, and the manager threw in a discount on my coolant flush. I heard him hook up the driver next to me with a discount as well. In total I paid $350, which is completely fair for everything I had fixed and replaced. Five Stars. I'd give this crew Six Stars if I could. Easily the best service of any kind I've had in a long time.
